The TORFL (Тест по русскому языку как иностранному) is a comprehensive assessment of Russian language proficiency for non-native speakers, aligned with the highest European quality standards.
Levels:
The TORFL test consists of six levels, corresponding to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR):

Elementary Level (TEL / A1): Basic competence in Russian, suitable for meeting elementary communicative needs in everyday situations. Supports further language learning.

Basic Level (TBL / A2): Sufficient for basic everyday and cultural communication, and is the minimum requirement for Russian citizenship.

First Certification Level (TORFL-I / B1): Intermediate level, enabling effective communication in cultural, educational, and professional contexts. Allows admission to Russian universities.

Second Certification Level (TORFL-II / B2): High competence, enabling study at Russian universities (except certain philology fields) and professional work in engineering and natural sciences.

Third Certification Level (TORFL-III / C1): Advanced proficiency, suitable for professional roles in linguistics, translation, journalism, international relations, and management.

Fourth Certification Level (TORFL-IV / C2): Native-like proficiency, qualifying holders for advanced work in Russian philology and a Master of Arts in philology.
Test Content:
The TORFL assesses proficiency in five core competencies:

Writing: Expressing communicative intentions with appropriate vocabulary.

Vocabulary/Grammar: Correct usage of words and phrases.

Reading: Understanding various types of written information in Russian.

Listening: Comprehending spoken Russian in diverse contexts.
